Snowshoe Hares at Fox Brook Camp
Sometimes the use of a limited palette, such as the Zorn palette, makes a painting interesting because the viewer can readily see it's a limited palette. I think that applies to my previous image of The Bow Paddler. The colors are "off" but nonetheless balanced.
In this new painting of two snowshoe hares I've used the same limited palette, but (I think) I've created the illusion of a full palette. Rather than draw attention to a limited palette, I've attempted to conceal it.
About the subject: In grassy campsites along Maine's northern rivers, snowshoe, or varying, hares are a common sight. Their fur turns white in winter and brown in summer. This shows their appearance in early June.
