One of my favorite subjects.  I believe the original of this image is a Bert Call photograph.  It's in a 1912 copy of "In the Maine Woods" although it's unattributed.  This publication was an annual tourist guide published by the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad.  Call was a photographer working out of Dexter, Maine.  

Anyhow, it looks like West Branch Penobscot to me.  And given the date, I think it's a Gerrish canoe.
