The Small Landscape Idea

The Western Maine Foothills Trust will sponsor an exhibit next summer at Cafe Nomad in Norway, featuring images of its open-to-the-public trails.  More about this exhibit later.  Update:  The exbibit is at Cafe Nomad until the 22nd of August.

I've chosen to paint the Packard Trail.  This trail, off the Sodom Road in Buckfield, is a pastoral, gradual two-mile loop that's great for a shaded walk with a dog or two.

The challenge for painting this trail is that it features no broad and dramatic vistas.  It's all under the (mostly beech) trees, except for a stretch of shoreline along a small pond.   I've tried to give this painting interest and depth by placing my dog and my wife Paula on the trail.
