Greetings from.........

Some of my paintings are of familiar and fondly recalled places, and I find myself immersed in them as I work.  This little ebauche of Round Pond, along the Allagash, is a case in point.

This view of the pond is from the Outlet Campsite, which is the site of the first camps the Jalbert brothers, Sam and Willard, built on the pond before moving across to Windy Point, site of today's Jalbert Camps.  I've camped at the Outlet perhaps two dozen times, in all kinds of weather, over the past forty years.  This is lovely campsite;  it's open to the breeze (if there is one) and the sun (it faces ENE).   It's close to the spring, for fresh water, and the Round Pond Rips, for trout fishing.

The scene is just after dawn, with dense clouds bearing down from the west.   It's like a postcard.  The text on the reverse is "Wish You Were Here."
